When I was first given the task of creating a coil pot, I decided that I wanted the coils to create a shape of something instead of creating just a stack of coils as a type of texture for a pot. Going with this idea, I remembered the recent “What Color Is The Dress?” trend and got interested in the idea of creating a dress shaped coil pot. This was especially because I had always adored beautiful dresses ever since I was young. Thus, this is how I came to create this coil pot.
During the making process, I found it hard to try to get the coils to stack on each other while keeping it from getting too flat. This was because I really wanted to keep the circular shape of the coils as part of my design to the dress. To solve this problem, I kept on using the slip over the whole coil to keep it from making cracks. Another problem I faced was during the making of my braided waistband. In fact, I worked for two and a half full classes to create the braids and make it coil on top of each other without breaking the braid. However, this also allowed me to feel quite satisfied and proud when I was finally able to finish my waistband part of the dress. Some improvising was done as I made the dress. For example, in my original plan, I had been planning to make a strapless dress. However, as I kept on stacking my coils, I found that the strapless dress made it look a bit too revealing for the elegant concept that I was going for. Thus, I decided to add a one shoulder strap to it to fit this concept better. |
